On an unknown island, the Buggy Pirates—unaware their captain is actually alive—build a grave for Buggy's severed body

 

One piece chapter 56 "No Way".

Sanji heads out on a cigar-smoking bison, packed with several days' provisions; Luffy follows behind, for some reason carrying his own bison (who is also wearing his hat) instead of riding.

 


One piece chapter 57 "Because of Dreams".

Buggy's Crew Adventure Chronicles, Vol. 16: "The Duel of Captain's Succession".

Their mourning complete, the rest of the Buggy Pirates watch as Mohji and Cabaji battle for the right to succeed Buggy as captain.

 

One piece chapter 58 "Old Fart".

Buggy's Crew Adventure Chronicles, Vol. 17: "The Twelve-Hour Bout".

By nightfall, Mohji and Cabaji are still fighting, still no closer to deciding the captaincy. The other Buggy Pirates have long fallen asleep, Richie in particular enjoying his own dreams of being captain.

 

One piece chapter 59 "Obligation".

Buggy's Crew Adventure Chronicles, Vol. 18: "Explosion!! Sleepwalking Richie".

Still dreaming of adventures as captain of his own crew, a sleepwalking Richie unknowingly knocks out Mohji and Cabaji both.

 

One piece chapter 60 "Propriety".

Buggy's Crew Adventure Chronicles, Vol. 19: "Formation!! The Richie Pirate Crew".

At daybreak, while Mohji and Cabaji lie beaten, a triumphant (if confused) Richie is declared the new captain, complete with his own Jolly Roger. 

 

One piece chapter 61 "Demon".

The Straw Hat Pirates help some giant squids harvest daikon—with varying levels of seriousness. While Usopp and Luffy fool around with a wheelbarrow, Nami falls asleep reading a book.


 

One piece chapter 62 "M-H-5".

Richie Crew's Adventure Chronicles, Vol. 1: "The Island's Indigenous Kumate Tribe".

The newly-minted Richie Pirates run into a pack of heavily-armed natives.

 

One piece chapter 63 "I Ain't Gonna Die".

Richie Crew's Adventure Chronicles, Conclusion: "The Pulverization of the Richie Crew".

Richie "leads" his new crew into a quick, brutal defeat at the hands of the Kumate Tribe.

 

One piece chapter 64 "Giant Battle Spear".

Sanji cooks away as head chef of the Baratie, while kitchen assistant Luffy feeds his alligator coworker.

One piece chapter 65 "Prepare".

 Buggy's Crew Adventure Chronicles, Vol. 20: "I See It!! My Pirate Ship!!!"

Buggy and his new ally spot a familiar ship docked beside a certain island.


One piece chapter 66 "The Spear Is Stifled".

Buggy's Crew Adventure Chronicles, Vol. 21: "Reunion—That's Bananas!"

Venturing onto Kumate Island, Buggy and his new ally find Buggy's grave—and Mohji and Cabaji, still beaten senseless, lying right beside it.

One piece chapter 67 "Soup".

Buggy's Crew Adventure Chronicles, Vol. 22: "Richie Au Vin (Richie and Company, Stewed in Red Wine)".

To their horror, the Richie Pirates discover that the Kumate tribe are cannibals—with no qualms about cooking lions right alongside their human captives.

One piece chapter 68 "The Fourth".

Buggy's Crew Adventure Chronicles, Vol. 23: "Suspicious Parts".

While the Kumate Tribe continues stewing Richie and the other pirates, a few curious tribesmen untie the last "member" of the crew: Buggy's severed torso and limbs.

 

One piece chapter 69 "Arlong Park".

In the dead of night, Santa Usopp forges ahead with his Christmas run, pulling the sleigh himself when his assistant Luffy and faithful reindeer begin falling asleep.

 

One piece chapter 70 "The Manly Usopp's Great Adventure".

The Straw Hat Pirates as samurai, all dressed in Kabukimono-esque clothing and all wielding at least one sword. Luffy in particular is perched on an upside-down wok, holding an oil-paper parasol while unsheathing his red-lacquered sword with his teeth.

 

One piece chapter 71 "Masters Above All".

Buggy's Crew Adventure Chronicles, Vol. 24: "Rampaging Parts!!"

Still severed, but no longer mindless, Buggy's "remaining" body starts attacking the Kumate Tribe. Luckily, the chaos jars the rest of his crew free of the cannibals' cooking pot.

 

One piece chapter 72 "Appropriate".

Buggy's Crew Adventure Chronicles, Vol. 25: "Shadows On the Horizon".

As the Kumate Tribe lies beaten, their would-be victims rejoice at the four figures standing atop a nearby hill.

One piece chapter 73 "The Monster From the "Grand Line"".

Buggy's Crew Adventure Chronicles, Vol. 26: "Sorry for Making You Wait, Boys!!!"

Buggy make his grand reappearance, body restored at last; by his side are his new partner, Mohji, and Cabaji.

One piece chapter 74 "Business".

Buggy's Crew Adventure Chronicles, Vol. 27: "Parade!!"

Buggy, Alvida, Mohji and Cabaji make short work of the Kumate Tribe as the rest of the crew cheers them on.


 

One piece chapter 75 "Sea Charts and Fish-Man".

Buggy's Crew Adventure Chronicles, Conclusion: "Oh Captain, Our Captain!!"

Restored to his former glory, Buggy stands tall with his crew and his new ally, his premature grave crushed underfoot and his Jolly Roger flying high.
